Start with what the goal costs today
Imagine a goal priced at ₹20,00,000 on 2 November 2026, ten years away. This is a fictional price, not a forecast or advice to buy an investment. Enter that figure in the Goal SIP tab, with ten years, 6% assumed annual inflation, 8% assumed annual return and a current monthly SIP of ₹0. The calculator first adjusts the goal cost, then reverses its monthly investment formula.
At a constant 6% inflation assumption, ₹20,00,000 × 1.06 raised to the tenth power is about ₹35,81,695.39 at the goal date. With a constant 8% annual return divided into equal monthly rates and contributions at the start of each month, the calculator estimates ₹19,448.22 per month. Rounding the monthly amount upward may be sensible for an illustration, but the result is not a guarantee that the goal will be met. The SEBI Goal SIP calculator likewise describes such outputs as illustrations rather than actual returns.
Change the assumptions, not the goal
| Inflation assumption | Return assumption | Future goal cost | Illustrative monthly SIP |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4% | 8% | ₹29,60,488.57 | ₹16,075.14 |
| 6% | 8% | ₹35,81,695.39 | ₹19,448.22 |
| 8% | 8% | ₹43,17,849.99 | ₹23,445.47 |
| 6% | 10% | ₹35,81,695.39 | ₹17,340.40 |
Reproduce and adapt the result
Open the Goal SIP calculator and select Goal SIP. The default inputs match the 6%-inflation, 8%-return row. Change one input at a time and record the new monthly amount. If you already invest each month for this goal, enter the current SIP to see the projected additional contribution and shortfall. Check real product terms and your own time horizon before acting. The tool cannot choose an investment, forecast market returns or account for a shortfall caused by late contributions. SEBI calculator and limitations
